


THE PROJECT
Thanks to the Alcorso Foundation I am working in Italy throughout July 2017 researching the life and artistic career of Futurist and pioneer of Noise Art Luigi Russolo. Through collected sound and imagery I will be producing two moving image works with soundtracks. One will be a biography of Russolo's life, the other will concentrate on the much overlooked connections between Futurism and spirituality.

MAT WARD
Mat Ward is a musician, instrument designer and sound artist working from Hobart, Tasmania. His practice embraces experimental music, classical and contemporary art music,free improvisation, jazz and rock 'n' roll. He has a particular interest in modernist pioneers of sound and film such as Luigi Russolo, Dziga Vertov,Harry Partch and Edgard Varese. With his band No Mates Ensemble he has composed and performed a variety of concert, festival and gallery works that explore and celebrate the legacy of early 20th century experimental film and sound.
